FIM® Assessment – Quality Improvement in CESN

AlphaFIM® and FIM® are trademarks of Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR), a division of UB Foundation Activities Inc. (UBFA).

The FIM® (Functional Independence Measure) instrument is used to measure outcomes of functional independence at admission and discharge in inpatient rehabilitation. It measures disability and estimates associated caregiver burden. FIM® Efficiency is the average change in the FIM® score per day of client participation in the inpatient rehabilitation program (CIHI, 2016).

CESN participated in an IDEAS project in 2017, to address Quality Improvement in FIM®. As a result, several tools were developed to support accurate and timely FIM® assessments and appropriate utilization of FIM® data.
