MENTAL HEALTH

"That’s another piece that we don’t talk about, we don’t talk about the mental health with stroke at any age, especially with young stroke survivors. Literally within 24 hours, my life, my husband's life, my kids life changed, just going through life…. If there weren’t other stroke survivors, … my age to go through this with, to talk with, I don’t know where I would be."

"After my stroke, I found myself facing unexpected challenges with anxiety, depression, and mood changes. Building resilience has meant leaning on tools that ground me—from therapy and peer support groups to connecting with loved ones, meditation, and prayer."
Aaron
29 years

A stroke can affect both your emotional and physical well-being. If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, or difficulty adjusting after a stroke, connect with your primary care provider who can help assess your needs and connect you with appropriate mental health services and supports. Additional mental health resources are listed below to help support your recovery and well-being.

In Ontario, adults with depression and anxiety-related conditions can access publicly funded Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and related approached to manage their conditions. You can access through the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) Program
